The Eagle

The wings are now broken

The Eagle is down

Overcast horizons now seem too far

Adversity results in evolution of character, they say

But not when conscience questions itself

Far too many storms faced

Won against all

But the blatant truth struck in face

Made it fall in the dust and stay

No more spirit to get up and soar again

No more courage to look at the sky ever again

With the pinions chained by the harsh realities of illusions fading

There is nothing left to get going

Only a heavy heart with broken dreams crying tears of regret

The Eagle, too fragile and afraid to apologize to the sky

Shall remain down and out forever and a day
